Planning Phase
I am in the Multimedia and Technical department for the visit to the Home for The Angels. I am responsible for creating and updating the blog for this project and the blog is at https://group9socengagehomefortheangels.blogspot.com/.
I started to creating my blog after my group leader and some of the other team members pay their first visit to Home for The Angels to take a look of the situation of the house and to meet the person in charge of the house for further discussion. As the preparation was conducted, I was very anxious about how this project going to be, am i able to adapt with the atmosphere of the house also i kept thinking am i able to work with the other friends as this is my first time meeting them and we were totally a strangers before the project started, also things that make me worried the most was this is my first time doing social engagement and I’m afraid I couldn’t do my job well.
Current Stage
So we arrived at the Home for The Angels on Friday morning and we were so amazed by the scenery there because the house is surrounded by beautiful mountains and the weather are nicer than in Kuala Lumpur. All of us was so excited to start our project. So, i started with helping Kak Su in the kitchen.
Ending Phase
After lunch, all of us get some rest and then clean up the kitchen, after done helping at the kitchen I helped the cleaner to clean up the store. We were so exhausted on the first day as we have done so many chores. So basically the activities that been done at that house was interesting but, I as Malay student, we can’t really interact with the children as most of the children there more fluent speaking in Chinese.
So it makes me as Malay student who cannot understand Chinese feels a little bit sad as we can’t conduct the games or helping the children with their studies because of the language barrier.
From this project, I realized that I am the luckiest girl that received a lot of love from my family and friends, I should be grateful and happy with my life compared to the kids. This is because from what i know, some of the kids were sent there because of various family background for example, some of them can’t afford their life, some of the kids have families or parents that love to hit them and so on. Despite all their background, the kids still playing happily with their friends and been grateful of their life. I especially feel sad for the small kids there. While, the other kids at their age ( 3 - 9 years old ) still leaving with their parents, spoiled with a lot of love, they at that house have to be independent, manage their own lives and doing chores. But overall, these was the most exciting moments that i will treasure it for the rest of my life.
