Self Reflection of Our Project ! by Myra Alia

Planning Phase
I was appointed to be in the logistic unit where I had the responsibility in allocating for transportation to get to our destination and Home for the Angels was the chosen one. As we are in charge for transportation, Shu Ying, Li Xin and I did some findings for rental vans that meet with our budget which was RM 350 by calling some companies that do transportation services in Bangsar area. After a few weeks later, one of one group members luckily found a very cheap rental van and we decided to go with the van since the company offered us a really affordable price.

 Current Stage
By the time we arrived on the first day, we were welcomed by the teacher that in charge of that place and she showed us around the place and the bedrooms for us to stay. After that, she brought us to the kitchen and Nadiah, Razin, and I started to help Kak Siti (cooker) to prepare the ingredients and set up the tables to serve the kids for lunchtime. I assisted Kak Siti by cutting onions and vegetables.

Around 10:00 am after I have done with my task in the kitchen, I went straight away to clean the toilets and cleaned up the sinks.



After tea time, some of us prepared the foods for dinner and some of us helped the kids to do their homework. On the second day, we were told that we were going to hike the hill where the Broga Sak Dato Temple is located. We were divided into groups of two and we selected 3-4 kids for us to lead them during the activity. After we have done with the hike, Annalisa, Shu Ying, Li Xin and I prepared foods for lunchtime.

 We had lunch together as usual with the children and helped them to clean up the tables and chairs after. Around 1:00 pm, we managed to gather the children that aged 11-14 years old to proceed with our next activity, science experiment which we did the respiratory system by using plastic bottles and balloons to demonstrate and we had our tea time afterward. On 24th March, the last day of our project, we managed to do handicraft which we did origami with the children and did some game session and ended our program with award ceremony for our last agenda where we gathered the children together and we gave each of them presents for what they have been participated for the past 3 days to reward them.



Ending Phase
Throughout the social engagement, I have learned a lot especially how to be grateful and being in someone’s shoes. There were differences which can be seen, the kids playing with their childhood friends every evenings compared to the kids in the city which more on gadgets. I felt so happy that the children really spend their time being “kids” to the fullest and I hope these kids can grow up to be on their own and face challenges bravely.

For information, this is my first time joining or doing a group activity that involved with the society.
