Self Reflection of Our Project ! by Marion Jesmine

Name : Marion Jesmine Sia Jia Hui
No Matrix : CIB 180061
Position : Treasurer

Planning Phase
I am the treasurer for my social engagement group. Therefore,I was responsible for allocating enough amount of money to fund our visit to the orphanage home. After we have decided on  the place to visit (Home for the Angels), the logistics department and I did some surveys and calculations to ensure that the cost of transportations were within our budget. Next, with the programme department to discuss about the cost of each activities that will be carried out during our visit to the orphanage. Besides, I also requested for an official letters to ask for donations from the outsiders. Although the donations collected were not much, but it still able to help us a little. Obviously, it is my duty to prepare the expenditure report.

Current Stage
The other 4 members and I arrived late since we were having our mid-semester test on that afternoon. During the three days of our visit, I’ve helped the chef at the orphanage to prepare the ingredients required for cooking. We also help to set up the tables and chairs before dining  and rearrange it after having meals. The food there were incredibly delicious which is beyond my expectation. I also helped the PIC to wash the toilets. In the process of getting along with those little angels, I really enjoy everything that we did together, eating, hills climbing, playing games, watching movies, doing cards and many more.

During the movie session, a few of them sneaked out. When I approached them to ask why, they told me that they have watched the movie several times. And suddenly, one of them asked me questions that make me so speechless, “Sister, are you going to come and visit us again?” and “Sister, will you forget us after sometimes?”. I really did not expect these kind of questions will come out from a 7 years old kid.

When talking to them, I like to look straight into their eyes. Their eyes were sparkling especially when they were talking about their dreams in the future. The look in their eyes were so innocent. I prayed that they will achieved what they want to be in the future. I received presents as well as thank you cards from them. I really wished that I will be back there one fine day.

Ending Phase
In a word, I can conclude that I have participated in my Social Engagement’s  trip to
Home for the Angels, Malaysia. Reflecting back the moments, I have learnt a great
lesson and do feel that I have contributed something meaningful to the society.
I even tried to put myself into theirs’ shoes in order to make myself to understand
the purposes/reasons behind every actions taken by each of them. Also, I have learnt to
be more contented and grateful with everything that I have in my life. Last but not least, I sincerely
hope that those little angels can grow up happily and healthily together. Not only that, but also to have
enough courage to overcome the challenges life in the future and will not ever let their past to determine their future.
