Planning Phase
Our department is in charge for planning and preparing the programme flow, and the 3 days activities. We drafted the first programme flow and activities for the proposal before first visit. After the first visit with the Person In Charge, Joyce Lau, we modified some programme flow and activities according to her requirement which is more educational activities. We have changed the game sessions to trading session and science experiment. We distributed our tasks after the proposal is approved. I take the responsible to plan materials, instructions, rules and regulations for making handicraft, science experiment and trading session. I was grateful to have this opportunity to learn how to plan and prepare an event.
Current Stage
On the first day, I taught the children to do handicraft in the library. I felt happy that they was enjoyed to do new handicraft and willing to learn step by step patiently. We give some small gifts to children who are doing well. During the science experiment session, we showed a video of the operation of respiratory system and explained the pressure theories to them. After that, we distributed materials to them to conduct the experiment. I hope they can really learn something from this scientific experiment.
On the next morning, we visited Broga Sak Dato Temple. It was such a beautiful place and I wish to visit it again. During the trading session, I want to thank a child named Yi Chang because he helped me to divide the other children into 3 groups and persuaded them to corporate with us.
Other than that, we also teach children to make Tang Yuan during preparation of tea time. At the night, I chatted with the children to know their stories while watching the movie. I felt that the relationship with the children was getting closer on the second day.
On the last day, children between 8 to 14 years old were played UNO card instead of drawing competition because it was more attracted to them. Before we dismiss and went back to UM, we exchanged contact number with the children. It was a sorrow moment that children asked us if we will back again. They kept waved and said goodbye to us until we took the van.
Ending Phase
I like hiking activity the most in this event because it was glad to see children felt excited to hang out and introduced it to us. I have learnt self -discipline in Homes For the Angels. They must follow their own time table and daily tasks. I think it is important to keep a healthy lifestyle. I also have learnt to think positive no matter what you experienced. They are simple and kind even though sometimes they are naughty. We must be more patient when accompany orphans. They are sensitive because lack of love and caring. I hope that I can participate in similar activities in the future.
