Planning Phase
During this stage, obviously we barely know each other yet. Some of us recognise each other because currently joining the same project with different department, some of us passed each other before at faculty and some never even met. The ice between our member at first is really thick and we never have a complete attendance during meetings yet. Not to deny that I am worry if I am putted in a wrong group but have to continue with it as I have no choice or maybe the issue wasn’t that serious for me to change group yet. Fortunately, as time flies, I begin to realise that I am actually in the right group plus with the great guidance from our Leader Lei Yee to make sure that we always meet any documents submission dateline. Although there are several tries we make to change the date of the visit to meet the availability of everyone, the tasks still run as we planned at the end and we manage to do the visit successfully.
Current Stage
For visit, I am involved in accounting course’s mid-term test and have to depart with the second group in the afternoon. Luckily one of our members can drive to the destination so that we can save up money as booking a Grab during peak hour may increase the fee. However, obstacles arise when the version the vehicle hard to hold in jammed situation causing us to wait for the peak hour to pass before start to depart. Consequently, we arrived late to the Home for the Angels and totally missed all the activities on first day.
Because of that, we totally give our all on the second day and last day to cover up what we missed. I had a really fun for three days and two nights there with no usage of phone, taking me away from university life for a while even though I have a lot submission dateline to meet for other courses. But I decided to fully appreciate my time there as the kids may sense if we are half-heartedly to be there.
Through the time being there, I am amazed at how the kids are so innocent and grows up well even with saddening families background stories.
Ending phase
I did not know my level of tiredness for the visit until I slept for 12-hour without taking dinner. Fortunately, I can still attend my morning classes. I still not miss them for the first and second day after the visit, but I miss them so badly days after that. Constantly, I reflect on myself after the visit by reminiscing all the children’s stories and compare my current self with my future self that I would like to be to create better environment for kids like them. I had the chance to show my appreciation through Facebook and somehow, I befriends with the staff there after the visit and she replied my post with her appreciation for our presence there. Last but not least, the children do learn something from us through teaching sessions, but we also learn real-life lesson indirectly from them.
